"The Twilight Saga: New Moon" opens in theaters nationwide today, and people are going freakin bananas. The sexual energy oozing out of stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner have teenage girls (and, let's be honest...their moms) screaming and yelling like the Beatles are in town or something.

The midnight showings last night broke records, as the film has already brought in $26.3 million. Since it's midday right now, I'm sure that number has skyrocketed even more. That number beat out the midnight showing earnings for "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince", which brought in $22.2 million earlier this year at its midnight run.

So why is today's opening of "New Moon" bad for the ski industry? Apparently, people would rather watch a half naked Taylor Lautner than ski. Arapahoe, Loveland, Mammoth, Breckenridge, Keystone, Wild Mountain, Vail, Whistler....they're all reporting low numbers today, and they're saying the skiers and riders opted to go to the movies instead of the mountain!***

Well, this Twilight mania will pass soon enough, and people will head back out to the mountains when it does. Good thing the next installment in the series doesn't come out until after the season's over...right?!?

***Please note that statement is entirely made up. Really I'm not sure how many people are skiing those resorts today...thanks for going with it though...
