New Moon's domination at box office gives hope to ski resorts

It's no surprise that "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" did well this past weekend. But there's a difference between doing well, and getting the title of the biggest autumn season opener of all time. It raked in a solid $140.7 million. It's now the third highest 3-day debut ever, behind "The Dark Knight" at $158.4 million, and "Spider-Man 3" with $151.1 million. New Moon brought it, and rocked it like Foghat.

Now, clearly, our economy is in the pooper. But here's what ski resorts may be thinking after this weekend: if people are willing to spend $10-15 on a movie ticket that will provide them with 2 hours of entertainment, why not spend a little more dough on a lift ticket and get a full day of entertainment? If a Twi-hard can spend the cash for a movie ticket (and think of how many times that person will see "New Moon"), three posters, four t-shirts, and gas money to follow around the press tour of Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, perhaps a ski trip isn't out of the question this year.

And, if the cast decides to head back up to Vancouver (where the film was shot), that's certainly a good excuse for some Twi-hards to get some turns in up at Whistler, a mere couple hours away...I'm just saying...
