Cross country World Cup results
At the classic style Cross Country World Cup race on Sunday in Finland, Petter Northug from Norway took the top spot on the podium for the 15K. American Kris Freeman had a personal best day, coming in fourth.
Petter's winning time of 35:22.2 beat out Russian Maxim Vylegzhanin's time of 35:23.4 and Russian Alexander Legkov's time of 35:30.1.
"I did ski what I thought was my best race ever today...overall it was really what I had hoped to do today, except that I would have liked to have been 10 seconds faster and have won. Everything is about the Olympics this year, and certainly I take a lot of confidence from this," he said. "I haven't done a ton of hard intervals yet, so hopefully there is more fitness to be gained."
As for the women's 10K at the Ruka ski center, Aino-Kaisa Saarinen from Finland won in 25:58.0, ahead of Russia's Irina Khazova in 26:11.1 and Norway's Vibeke Skofterud in 26:12.7.
