U.S. Olympic Ski Team yet to be announced
The U.S. Olympic Team alpine athletes have yet to be announced and many are anxiously awaiting the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association's official release.
The original announcement was scheduled for yesterday afternoon and postponed at the last minute until today. And we are still awaiting the good word.
Apparently, U.S. Team officials are waiting to see if any spots might open due to other nations not filling their quotas. It's a possible scenario, on both accounts.
It's a tight race for many of the American athletes, especially on the men's side. For example, four of the U.S. Team giant slalom skiers have scored World Cup points in the discipline this season, and on the speed side--talents like Scott Macartney, Erik Fisher and Steven Nyman sit in the balance. Macartney has not had the results he's capable of (this season), for example, though he's been plagued by nagging injuries.
As seen with the recent U.S. Olympic Freestyle announcements, officials do consider injuries and past performances when filling out the squad.
