Candide Thovex takes victory at Chamonix in his first ever Freeride World Tour event

While most of the attention was on Winter X Games 14 this weekend, there was another major skiing competition going down in Chamonix, France, as the the 2010 season of the Nissan Freeride World Tour (FWT) kicked off. French skiing legend Candide Thovex, who ironically helped take Winter X Games skiing to new levels, took the victory at his first FWT stop ever. The win marks the second victory in a row for Thovex this season as he recently took the Red Bull Linecatcher with his insprired line.

Simply ridiculous how well-rounded Thovex has proven he is at skiing. Currently, I don't think there is another skier besides maybe Tanner Hall, who can charge the pipe, slopestyle course, and the steeps like Thovex's illustrious career has proven. Just take a look at the video of Candide's winning run on Mount Blanc:
