4.8-magnitude earthquake rattles Jackson Hole

A moderate 4.8-magnitude earthquake rattled western Wyoming early Wednesday evening.

The quake epicenter was roughly 25 miles east-northeast of famous ski town Jackson, WY. It struck about 3.1 miles deep, a relatively shallow earthquake according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

No incidents of damage or casualties were reported, with none likely due to the location of the earthquake.

Among those feeling the shakes was legendary snowboarder and Protect Our Winters founder, Jeremy Jones.

Following the quake, Jones tweeted, "Just felt an earthquake @TetonGravity."

The majority of Wyoming earthquakes are minor, as seismic activity is common near Yellowstone National Park. However, on October 28, 1983, a powerful 6.9-magnitude earthquake centered in Borah Peak, Idaho, rocked the surrounding areas and left 2 people dead.
