Alexandra Paul

Q & A with Alexandra Paul

Although Alexandra Paul was a Baywatch star, a Melrose Place star and the star of numerous movies, to call Alexandra an actress is like calling an Apple MacBook Pro a calculator.  This is a girl who puts her money where her mouth is.  Her awards, achievement and accolades are too numerous for this piece of editorial.  This is a person who goes to jail for what she believes in.  This is a girl that between staring in over 50 feature films and television programs, she trained and was a participant in the World Ironman Triathlon Championships.   We chatted up she and her husband triathlete/great/lucky dude, Ian Murray.

Tell us about your affinity for the mountains?

I grew up in Cornwall, Ct. (pop: 1,200) and there was a small ski area there called Mohawk Mountain. The local kids got to ski for free as long as we picked up lunch trays in the lodge's cafeteria. It was more of a hill, and usually the conditions were more ice than snow, but I learned to ski there so I have a lot of warm feelings about New England skiing. I am less comfortable in what most skiers might call "perfect conditions" because we didn’t get them at Mohawk Mountain! It was, I heard, the first place to use man-made snow, and I think that is pretty neat too.

What is your favorite mountain spot to go to?

Anywhere my beloved husband, Ian, is.

What is your favorite mountain activity?

I would say cross country skiing. Ian organized a back country hut trip (skiing from 10th Mtn Division hut to 10th Mtn Division Hut) in Aspen earlier this year and I loved it!

Can you keep up with husband Ian Murray or does he a selfish, me, me, me guy who blows you off creaming fall lines?

My husband is a fantastic skier - he was a ski instructor for 10 years in Aspen and was on the National Champion demo team there (demonstration skiing is like synchronized swimming on skis, so you have to be an exceptionally beautiful skier - and you don't wear those dorky noseplugs). I, on the other hand, am not so good, but Ian is also a gentleman and such a loving, supportive man that if we are skiing together he waits for me as we go down the mountain. I tell him to keep going and he looks at me like I am crazy and says, “But I want to ski with you”.

You are an environmental activist. If you could force every person in the world to subscribe to 3 environmental mantras, what would they be?

Buy less, buy used, simplify.

What film or TV stuff should we be looking for you in next?

I am starring in 3 films coming out this year: Tru Loved, an independent film in which I play a gay mom; the television movie A Date with Murder in which I play a gay lawyer; and Family of Four an independent in which I play a (straight) mom who is an alcoholic in a highly dysfunctional family. I am also starring in a film in Canada next month.
