Revelstoke Claims Distinction of Longest Vertical Descent

When it comes to top-to-bottom vertical, Whistler/Blackcomb had been the tallest of the North American bunch.  However, December 20th marked the end of Whistler’s claim to the longest top-to-bottom vertical descent.  Little known Revelstoke Mountain Resort in British Columbia extended its gondola 885 feet this year to raise the vertical descent record to 5,620 feet.  This is a long way from Lindsey Vonn’s Buck Hill.  Revelstoke’s longest run, The Last Spike, stretches for a leg-burning 9.5 miles.  The mountain also offers Heli and Cat skiing, and has made extensive improvements to the resort, including a new high speed quad.  You can see the incredible terrain of the mountain in Matchstick’s "Seven Sunny Days".
