Subaru Freeskiing World Tour Kicks Off in Telluride Feb. 5

As the dust and snow settle from the second stop of the Winter Dew Tour, anticipation is ramping up for the start of the 2009 Subaru Freeskiing World Tour (FWT) February 5th in Telluride, Colorado.  Park competitions are on one end of the spectrum, while the big mountain riders of the Subaru Freeskiing World Tour reside on the other.  They’re both skiing, but it’s the difference between rock-and-roll and jazz music.  The controlled, structured environment found in the park differs greatly from the freeform improvisation found in big mountain competitions.  Now in its 10th year, the FWT features six stops with 20k in cash prizes per stop.  “This year’s Subaru Freeskiing World Tour is loaded,” said MSI Winter Sports Director and announcer Dak Williams. “The prize purse has almost doubled, and so has the viewership for our live webcasts. We have the best freeskiing athletes on the planet, and every year more up-and-comers are discovered on our tour. This is where the best come to compete.”

Incredible bravery matched by the skills to ski lines on the mountain the rest of us can not, big mountain riders maneuver cliff drops on beyond-double-black-diamond slopes.  The events will be streamed live on the FWT site.
