A competition that truly embraces the ideal mountain ethic, the Helly Hanson Big Mountain Battle comes to Squaw Valley on Saturday, February 21st.  It’s the first of five stops.  Teams of two will hike and ski courses designed by Chris Davenport, the famed big-mountain, ski-mountaineer.  This is skiing as green as it gets.  No chairlifts, no snowmobiles, just the satisfying reward of skiing every step you hike.  The living symbol of that is Chris Davenport.  Chris’ picture book Ski the 14ers documents his climbing and skiing all 54 of Colorado’s 14,000 foot peaks in one year.  Highly recommended.  Chris is also a hero, TV commentator, jovial man, and a ski film star (Warren Miller and Matchstick).

Entry fee is $75 per team, and perks abound including lunch, Rogue Beer, and Helly Hansen Lifa long underwear pants.  Entry is limited, so get on it!  Winners of each stop will win an all-expenses paid trip to the finals in Aspen/Snowmass, Davenport’s home mountain.
