Normally the powder falls out West, but this season, the East has seen its share, and up in Maine, Sugarloaf recently opened their fabled Backside Snowfields to skiers and riders. Forty inches of snow fell this past week, and the resort currently has 100 percent of its terrain open.

Sugarloaf’s snowfields deliver open, above-treeline slopes akin to Western bowls, for a true powder-hound experience. Word is that the weather has been pristine, too, with crystal blue-bird skies. Truly howl-worthy.

Sugarloaf is currently offering midweek ski-free packages for just $69 per person per night, and weekend packages for $89 per person per night. For more information on lodging and conditions visit
