TELUS, the Biggest Snow Party on Planet Earth, Starts Friday at Whistler

If TELUS were a book, the back cover would feature some serious quotes of endorsement.  How about a couple of fish rag quotes from Europe to LA.

“Best Parties on the slopes – one of the top ten best events for big air and big beats” – Guardian, UK

“North America’s biggest music and snow sport celebration” – LA Times

So now, when I say it’s the biggest snow party on planet earth, you know this is not simple hyperbole.   The 10 day festival starts Friday at Whistler, which is seeing some of the best spring skiing conditions in years.  More than 100 inches of fresh snow have fallen on the mountain since March 1st, including a nice dusting of six inches this past weekend.

A highlight of events for you:

World Skiing Invitational Big Air – Saturday, April 18

The best pro skiers will be LAUNCHING into the stratosphere.  Live music is the soundtrack score to what is undeniably one of the highlights of the entire festival.

Orage Masters – Sunday, April 19

The 6th annual Orage Masters return to Whistler.  The team-based approach and creative costumes have resulted in this contest being dubbed the “anti-comp”.  Get in tune with the creative technical skills of these two plank jib masters.

Grenade Games 5 – Tuesday, April 21 through Saturday, April 25
The Grenade Games, the end of season snowboard celebration, is always interesting as those special, old-school luminaries of the sport find a way to take part.  New to this year’s line-up for the Grenade Games is a Dual Slalom Moguls contest.  Moguls and snowboarding go together in painful ways.  Should be a mix of good visual comedy and painful tail-bone crashes.

Zune Concert Series – every night
Free music for your ears.  Don’t miss Ozomatli, Chali 2na is back in the fold!  Also playing this year are The Stills, Metric, and DJ Z-Trip.

There’s a few nuggets for you, but understand TELUS is truly a festival, with more going on than can be serenaded in this article.   So check the line-up for yourself here, and find a room to stay in for as little as $63 per person per night
