Nordic Combined Team Wraps Up Whistler Training

It was a camp with a purpose.  The U.S. Nordic Combined Ski Team spent their last days on real snow at the site of next year’s Olympics.  It was a chance for the athletes to train and jump on their future Olympic stage (picture above).

“We had an awesome camp with our group with 10 athletes up there. We got really good skiing in, really good jumping in, and it was just good to train up there,” said World Champion Billy Demong (Vermontville, NY).

Getting some jumps at next year’s Olympic site was not an idea monopolized by the Americans. “There were four other national teams there. So, we got to not only train there together and wrap up the season, we also got to know the teams more on a personal level. Even though we all compete together all year, there’s always that underlying stress,” Demong said.

Now the team members can stress less, as they’ll be on vacation until early June, when they’ll head to Steamboat Springs to do some jumping on the plastic hills.
