Whistler Blackcomb to End Ski Season This Sunday, May 31st

After further review, there will be no skiing in June at Whistler Blackcomb.  Originally the mountain was scheduled to stay open until June 14th, but because of rapidly warming conditions, Bob Defour, Whistler Blackcomb’s vice president of operations, announced today that on Sunday the curtain will drop on the 2008-09 season.

“Epic spring conditions that were enjoyed up until this past weekend have deteriorated very quickly over the past few days,” said Defour.  “The snow quality is quickly diminishing and posing more hazards by the day. Looking at the warm weather and sunshine in the forecast, the conditions will obviously deteriorate further.”

Whistler, like Mt. Hood, offers summer glacier skiing.  A number of summer ski and snowboard camps ride the glacier throughout the summer.  June 20th will be the opening and the glacier will remain open through July, depending on weather conditions.
