Excellent Hiking and Biking at Alyeska Resort

If you’ve always wanted to go to Alaska, there’s no time like the present. The ski season might be over, but you can still hike and bike Mt. Alyeska and the Alyeska Resort and Girdwood area. And you can do it ad nauseum. Seriously, the possibilities are endless.

Hike up Alyeska and enjoy spectacular alpine vistas and wild life viewing. You can then further reward yourself at the top of the tram, with a drink or snack at the Glacier Express restaurant. And if you imbibe too much and don’t feel like hiking down, you can ride the tram down free! More adventurous types can enjoy tandem paragliding from the upper part of the mountain.

Mountain bikers are also well rewarded at Alyeska, with multiple trails to enjoy. If you’re competitive, give the North Face Vertical Challenge Climb-a-thon  a shot on September 12. Participants will compete for the most uphill laps on the North Face Trail from 9am – 6pm, downloading on the Tram. There’s also another smaller mountain bike race on the Blueberry Pancake on July 18.  Visit alyeskaresort.com for more information.

Maybe the best part is that you don’t need to bring much more than clean undies. The Alyeska Mountain Shop has everything you need for a mountain excursion: bike rentals, helmets, hiking clothing and poles.
