Blackcomb Mountain Reopened After Fire

A lightning strike on Blackcomb Mountain on Thursday sparked a fire on Cyrstal Ridge.  The fire, on the north flank of the ski resort, had kept Blackcomb closed to visitors over the weekend.  But, today, the British Columbia Ministry of Forests & Range and the Whistler Fire Department declared Blackcomb mountain safe and open to guests.  The fire is 100% contained and no critical infrastructure on Blackcomb is at risk.

“Getting the approval to operate today is really terrific news,” says Doug Forseth, senior vice president of operations at Whistler Blackcomb. “We are incredibly appreciative of the efforts of all parties, in particular the Ministry of Forests & Range and the Whistler Fire Department. It has been a tense few days and their work and leadership has been phenomenal.”
