Austria to Follow Italy’s Lead: Ski Helmets Mandatory for Minors

The era of the helmet-less skier is slowly coming to an end.  First Italy made helmets mandatory for children 15-and-under.  Now Austria’s chancellor’s office has announced mandatory helmets for the same 15-and-under set.  Parents will be held responsible for their offspring’s compliance.

Funny how this all came about because of two adults crashing into each other.  German state premier Dieter Althaus slammed into a Slovakian woman, killing her last season.  So while the kids adapt overdue safety measures because of a very public adult mess-up, the 16-and-overs can still go 1970s hockey style, and leave the helmets behind.
