Freeride World Tour Returns to Squaw Valley’s “Mythical” Tram Face in February

Hard to believe that the Freeride World Tour is only in its third year.  Already it has become one of the most prestigious big mountain comps out there.  The level of skiing on the Freeride World Tour is astounding.  Skiers and boarders tackling the steepest, most technical mountains in the world.  Falling can have tragic consequences, yet these brave men and women attack the mountain with world class skills.

Once again, the tour’s third stop will take place, snow permitting, on the mythical Tram Face of Squaw Valley.  Not since Squaw’s opening in 1949 has the Tram Face been open for a freeriding competition.  Last year there were plans to hold the comp on the Tram Face, but in the early morning of the second day of the comp, a ski patrolman tragically died doing avalanche control work.

Hopefully this will be the year the Tram Face makes its debut on the Freeride World Tour.  As the third stop, Tram Face will be a big deciding factor on which riders get the invite to the last stop in Verbier.
