To call Peak 2 Peak simply a gondola is like calling Lenny Bruce simply a comedian.  Yes, it is a gondola, but in the same way as the Augille du Midi in Chamonix, Peak to Peak stands as an engineering marvel that breaks the binds of categorization.  Opened in December of 2008, Peak 2 Peak connects the twin mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb.  It is the longest horizontal gondola and the highest lift of its kind, cruising at 1,427 feet above Fitzsimmons Creek.

This is an engineering marvel to be celebrated.  And studied.  “Proof” is the story of Peak to Peak.  Te documentary will be broadcast online at WhistlerBlackcomb.com, November 10, 2009 at noon.  For now, it’s teaser time.  Check the trailer action above.

“Proof” is a documentary about innovation, passion and the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola.  It is the story of the lengths that Whistler Blackcomb went, to make an epic mountain experience, even better.

Some of Whistler’s most beloved and well-known locals including big mountain skier Eric Pehota, godfather of newschool Mike Douglas, and the legendary Jim McConkey share their experiences of living in the ultimate testing ground, and how it inspired them to conceive the inconceivable.  The backdrop to their stories are some of the most powerful images of Whistler ever captured on film, ranging from the PEAK 2 PEAK’S gargantuan feats of construction to sweeping aerial views of the majestic Coast Mountain Range.
