Mammoth Mountain had originally planned to kick off its winter operations this coming weekend. However, due to favorable weather they were open the weekends of October 16-18 and November 7-8. While no one is complaining about earlier then normal riding, the slew of festivities originally intended to celebrate the opening, are still on tap for this weekend.

Grammy-nominated Shiny Toy Guns, will play a concert in Canyon Lodge at Mammoth Mountain this Saturday, November 14 at 9pm. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door and available at any Mammoth ticket counter, at the door, or at 800.MAMMOTH

Even if you don’t know the Shiny Toy Guns, you’ve probably heard them. The dance anthem “Le Disko” from their first album, “We Are Pilots” was used in various ads including Motorola’s RAZR2. Additionally, songs such as “Don’t Cry Out” have frequently been  used on various ski and snowboard movie soundtracks. Hence, the band is a great fit to kick off Winter 2009.

If that weren’t enough to lure you to town for the weekend, the eagerly-awaited premiere of the Mammoth team video, “Hot Laps,” will be showcased for free in the village, prior to the start of the concert on November 14th. The video features nearly all the skiers and snowboarders who comprise the Mammoth team, and was shot entirely in and around the Mammoth area.

The video has been receiving quite a lot of attention, as some of the filmers and riders were even invited onto Fuel TV’s “Daily Habit” to talk about the video. Keep a look out for that episode to air November 19th.
