The resort was established in 1939 as a summer high Sierra retreat. In 1972 the Kirkwood Ski area was opened and Highway 88 became a year around trans-Sierra route. Bathrooms were added to each cabin and the utilities winterized, and Caples Lake Resort is now a 3-season resor

t summer, fall, and winter. In 1982 the resort was purchased by John Voss and has been continually remodeled and upgraded since.
