Even though the drive from Los Angeles to Mammoth Mountain is legendary, sometimes there’s isn’t enough time in the weekend for the five-hour trek.  That’s where Horizon Air comes in, as the airline is beginning its winter service from LAX to Mammoth this Thursday, December 17.  The flight is 70 minutes, and takes skiers and boarders to Mammoth Lakes Yosemite Airport, which is about 15 minutes from the ski resort.  There are also non-stop flights from San Jose and Reno, and same-plane, one-stop service from Seattle and Portland.  One-way fares start at $49 from Reno, $69 from San Jose or LAX, $144 from Portland, and $149 from Seattle.  The winter flights will run from Thursday until April 11, 2010.
