The second of three Grand Prix stops has hit Mammoth Mountain.  In terms of importance, the Grand Prix is on the level with oxygen (can’t live without that can you?  So oxygen is important!).

The Grand Prix will determine who gets one of only four spots on the U.S. Olympic halfpipe team and a free ticket to Vancouver.  So, if anyone was waiting on getting nervous, now would be the time to watch the slow bead of sweat trickle down the forehead.  It’s nervous time!

Sponsorships, glory, pride, and lives are at stake!  Today was the first chance for athletes to get in some practice on Mammoth’s Super Duper Pipe with its mega 22 foot walls.  You knew Mammoth’s Unbound Crew would have the conditions meter set to perfect.  Shaun White (pictured above) was boosting bigger than illegal cash payments made to college football players in the SEC (from boosters, get it?).

There will be two separate halfpipe comps, with finals on Wednesday and Saturday.  Conditions are epic at Mammoth right now, so go get some turns in and check out the best snowboarders in the world do their thing at the Grand Prix.

Mammoth local Greg Bretz just turned 19.  Thanks, pop, for moving to Mammoth, eh Greg?
