Three athletes from Stratton Mountain School picked for Scandinavian Cup team

Stratton Mountain, Vt.-Isabel Caldwell ’10, Austin Cobb ’10 and Bridger Tyler ’11 were named to the Scandinavian Cup Team based on their top two results at the 2010 ConocoPhillips U.S. Cross Country Championships in Anchorage, Alaska. The Scandinavian Cup Team, also referred to as a United States Ski Team (USST) JI Trip, represents the top U.S. cross-country skiers under the age of 17.

Caldwell, Cobb, Tyler and nine other Americans will represent the U.S. in a race series against the best Nordic athletes from Scandinavian countries on Jan. 29-31 in Kuopio, Finland.

Alumna Sophie Caldwell ’08, who now skis for Dartmouth College, was named to the 2010 World Junior Championship Team for the third year in a row.

Sophie Caldwell and Isabel Caldwell were invited earlier this year to train with the USST National Elite Group. The 15-person group trained alongside the USST at the Olympic venue in British Columbia from Aug. 27-Sept. 4.

The SMS athletes named to the Scandinavian Cup Team are three of four East Coast athletes. The remaining 12 athletes were from the West and the Midwest.

Stratton Mountain School is a ski and snowboard academy located at the base of Stratton Mountain. The school serves students in grades 8-12 with winter programs for seventh graders. The SMS community of students, faculty, coaches and staff share the pursuit of academic and athletic excellence.
