Stratton Mountain School sending 12 Alpine racers to JII Nationals

Stratton Mountain, Vt.-Eight boys and four girls from the Stratton Mountain School Alpine Program will represent SMS for JII Nationals at Sugarloaf, Maine, on March 2-9, 2010.

Keith Schuman ’11, Nick Krause ’11, Tanner Mottau ’12, Danny Fowler ’12, Connor Davis ’11, Eric Rasmussen ’11, Cole Gibson ’11 took seven out of the 20 spots for the men’s Eastern Region team. Takehiro Watanabe ’11 will represent Japan in the event.

Madeleine Hall ’13, Morgan Klein ’11, Libby Gibson ’13 and Elle Gilbert ’12 will represent the girls’ side.

Four SMS athletes qualified for this event last year. This year’s team includes 11 SMS athletes who were chosen on Eastern criteria. This year’s results are noted as one of the most remarkable years in Stratton Mountain School’s recent history.

Qualification was based on a National Junior Race series, a FIS series and an Eastern Cup Downhill (DH)/Super-G (SG) series. JII Nationals allows athletes to compete on a world-class venue against his or her top peers in the country.
