Timberline Four Seasons Resort will sponsor their traditional Local’s Cup Race on March 26th to 28th. The weekend will also feature daily live entertainment, food and beverage.

The Local’s Cup tradition was started in 1991 by the Timberline Race Department. It is a Giant Slalom Ski Race that is open to the alpine, telemark and snowboard participants. Timberline has become recognized for snow sports excellence in the Southeast because of its altitude 4268′, north facing slopes and its location on the Eastern Continental Divide.

According to John Lutz, Director of Programs and Events at Timberline, the cup has been won by racers from the most of the southern states as well as Timberline skiers who challenge any other racers to try to beat them. The overall winners have their name engraved on a permanent trophy. There are age categories for alpine and prizes for all ages and divisions. The prizes are donated by Tucker County businesses.

Tim Worden, Timberline’s race director, reports that the 2009-2010 racing season has been successful and busy one at Timberline.

According to the General Manger Tom Blanzy, the newly widened White Lighting Trail at Timberline has produced a high level of excitement among skiers from the general public as well as the racing communities. And Timberline has also created excitement by its major increases in water pumping and snow guns, a surface lift at its terrain park and its upscale hotel slope front on Winterset trail.

John Lutz indicated that it is unique for a southeastern ski area to have a racing trail of the caliber of White Lighting. With its new expansion high speed races can be done at Timberline. Lutz rates White Lighting as the best ski racing trail in the Southeast.

The ski resort will also sponsor night entertainment Friday, March 26th, and Saturday, March 27th. The well-known Saddle Tramps will provide their interactive entertainment. On Sunday, March 28th Ted Garber will perform.
