Spring Back to Vail 2010 has arrived with free concerts and pond skimming

VAIL, Colo.-April 13, 2010- Spring Back to Vail, Vail Mountain’s iconic, high-energy, end-of-season bash returns April 12-18, 2010. Vail will be alive and kicking with four free outdoor concerts from Wyclef Jean, Guster, Robert Earl Keen and Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars. The ever-popular World Pond Skimming Championships presented by Rockstar will be held on Sunday, April 18 and will offer a free BBQ courtesy of Vail Mountain. New for 2010, the Men’s Journal Lounge, Reverb Eco Village and Sony Cierge Experience will be located at the base of the Vista Bahn from Friday through Sunday. Spring Back to Vail kicks off on Wednesday with the Bud Light après party at Los Amigos from 4-5:30 p.m. and Bud Light post party at The George from 8-10 p.m. The Bud Light and Spring Back to Vail promotional teams will be out and about with a variety of giveaway items for event-goers.

Friday through Sunday, the Spring Back to Vail Expo Village will be located at the base of the Vista Bahn and open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Men’s Journal Lounge will feature the Eukanuba Doggy Bar, Leatherman Tools product display and giveaways. Additionally, the IZSTYLE Winter Tour returns with the Reverb Eco Village featuring all kinds of cool giveaways from Bear Naked Granola, Clif Bar, Climate Counts, EVOL Burrito’s, NativeEnergy, Nordica, Oxfam, SIGG, Specialized, Stonyfield Farm and Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance. Liberty Skis and Smith Optics will also be showing their wares in this expo area.

Also located in the Vista Bahn base area Friday through Sunday will be the Sony Cierge Experience that will feature the latest Sony gadgets including the new DSCTX5 Cybershot digital camera that is waterproof, freezeproof, shockproof and dustproof. Here, lucky attendees will also have the opportunity to enter a Chair 5 promotion to win a chair from the High Noon Lift as well as a gift from Sony.

“The Vista Bahn base area is going to be the happening spot late this week,” said Missy Johnson of Highline Sports & Entertainment. “There will be non-stop action, music, giveaways and demos Friday through Sunday. Plus, dogs are welcome at the Eukanuba Doggy Bar.”

The action-packed weekend of music starts on Friday, April 16 with an international flare. Sierra Leone’s Refuge All Stars, who formed in a refugee camp during the civil war of Sierra Leone, will kick off Spring Back’s three-night concert series by sharing their incredible story through their reggae-style sound. The concert will be held in front of Solaris in Vail Village and will include a premier viewing of the band’s award-winning documentary. The event starts at 6 p.m.

The weekend will continue with singer-songwriter Robert Earl Keen bringing his alternative country music to Ford Park on Saturday, April 17. Keen has been performing since 1984 and is best known for favorites like “Merry Christmas from the Family,” “Feelin’ Good Again,” “Jesse with the Long Hair,” “The Road Goes on Forever,” “I’m Comin’ Home,” and “Gringo Honeymoon.” Keen will take the stage at 5 p.m.; gates will open at 4 p.m.

Following Keen’s performance, Haitian-American multi-platinum musician, rapper and record producer Wyclef Jean will take center stage. Wyclef broke through the musical scene in the mid-‘90s as a member of The Refugee Camp (The Fugees), a three-member group that included Lauryn Hill and Prakazrel “Pras” Michel. Blending hip-hop, reggae, R&B and folk, Jean broke off on his own in 1997. His show at Spring Back will give a sneak peek into his upcoming self-titled album, to be release June 2010. Wyclef’s performance will contain explicit content.

Private Reserve passes to the Wyclef Jean and Robert Earl Keen are available for $100 at the Loaded Joes locations in Avon and Vail Village. The Pass includes preferred stage viewing, food and beverages.

On Sunday, all on-mountain guests will have the unique opportunity to take a commemorative photo sitting on a chairlift chair located next to the legendary Chair 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. from Sony. Photos will be available for instant printing outside of Buffalo’s Restaurant until 2 p.m. and also available for viewing on a Vail Mountain hosted Flickr page.

Also on Sunday, Rockstar presents the legendary World Pond Skimming Championships from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at Vail Mountain’s Golden Peak base area. Skimmers from around the world will test their buoyancy in hopes of becoming the 2010 World Pond Skimming Champion and be awarded two ’10-‘11 Epic Passes.

Then, to celebrate the conclusion of another fabulous Vail winter season and to round out the Spring Back festival, American alternative rock band Guster will perform at Checkpoint Charlie Promptly at 4:45-7 p.m. With 12 albums and 13 singles, Guster offers a one-of-a-kind sound through the combination of bongos, cymbals and other drums. Performing together for over a decade, Guster’s live shows have a style of their own.
