Just got word from our friends at Whiteface in the Adirondack Mountains of New York that a Nor’easter has brought in a much-needed fresh dump of snowfall. They’ve gotten nearly half a foot of new coverage, setting the mountain up for a fantastic week of skiing and snowboarding. The fun will surely continue through the weekend, with hopefully even more snow on the way!
This new snowfall comes at a perfect time for Whiteface, with a number of visitors expected to attend this years First Tracks on Saturday and Sunday, January 14-15. First Tracks will be made available to the first 14 skiers and snowboarders who have their lift ticket and are geared up by 8am at the mountain’s guest services desk. The lucky 14 will get first dibbs on these Olympic slopes.
During Saturday’s visit, make sure you check out the Eastern Mountain Sports Demo day and experience some of the latest and greatest in snow gear. Top brands including Black Diamond, Dynafit, Scarpa, and G3 will be on had to let you check out their products, provide instructional demonstrations and much more.
The day will be capped off by live music and drink specials at the Cloudspin Lounge, featuring the musical styling of Eat, Sleep, Funk! Weary but cheery skiers and snowboarders can get their second wind thanks to Three Olives Vodka and Magic Hat draft beer specials.
Since its MLK Day on Monday, the weekend of fun on the slopes can continue into next week! On Monday, January 16th, if you bring two non-perishable food items to the ticket desk you will receive a $20 discount on your one-day lift ticket! The collected foodstuffs will be used to benefit the Jay/Wilmington Ecumenical Food Shelf.
“This is a great opportunity to make a contribution to the community and get in some great skiing,” said the mountain’s general, manager Bruce McCulley.
On top of a super cheap lift ticket, Whiteface is holding a Rail Jam sponsored by Maui North, Viking Ski Shop, Ski Barn, Cunninghams and Eastern Mountain Sports. Registration is $10 and begins at 8 a.m. and the Jam starts at 11 a.m. Helmets are required and the grand prize is a Forum Pat Moore Thunder Puss Snowboard.
