The holidays have never been merrier – winter has arrived early in the Sierra Nevada region, opening up North Lake Tahoe resorts ahead of schedule. With 7 inches of new snow overnight, Northstar-at-Tahoe has opened more terrain on the upper mountain, 28% more! The really good news is that significant snowfall is expected through the weekend, possibly more than 7 feet at the highest elevations, as the perfect family resort expects to open even more terrain for skiers and riders to enjoy at in the coming days.
With 24 open trails, Northstar has increased open terrain by nearly a third since earlier this week. Open lifts include Vista Express, Comstock Express, Arrow Express, The Big Easy, Big Springs Express Gondola and a magic carpet in the learning area.
“The snowfall we’ve received so far has allowed us to open more terrain for our guests to enjoy, and with what’s in the forecast over the weekend, we expect to open even more of the mountain as this storm series continues,” said Bill Rock, Northstar‘s Chief Operating Officer. “The best part is that our lifts are really sheltered from the wind. This gives our guests the ability to ski and ride from the top of the mountain even when these storms are on their way through.”
The dump of new snow overnight allowed Northstar to open six additional trails on the upper mountain today, whetting the winter storm appetite of skiers and riders in North Lake Tahoe. Inbound storms are expected to bring significant snowfall over the weekend, with forecasts calling for the possibility of more than seven feet in the higher elevations by Sunday. If a seven feet forecast isn’t enough to get you to the mountains, maybe a holiday party with Shaun White will be an extra incentive. The X-Games and Olympic gold medalist will be hosting the Northstar California Resort’s 40th Birthday Bash on Saturday, December 22nd, 2012. The event takes place 40 years to the day the resort opened for skiing for the very first time.
Can you remember the last time you took early season turns on Thanksgiving break? Northstar was busy with ski enthusiasts even before the Thanksgiving holiday, celebrating early snowfall and providing live music performances for everyone to enjoy. Bringing the family? Make sure to spend an evening on the ice skating rink – the best way to welcome to holidays and feel the Christmas spirit. From pottery classes to the Northstar Village shopping and dining, this mountain has it all for every member of your family to have a blast.
