Both Snow Summit and Bear Mountain boast professionally taught skiing and snowboarding lessons for beginners through experts, full service rental shops, full service bars and a complimentary shuttle service between the two resorts.

Snow Summit, located just a couple hours outside of LA, is the best place to learn to ski or snowboard in Southern California. While the bunny slopes are pretty short and weak compared to Mammoth or Tahoe, it is still a great place to head up for the weekend or slide around and get your bearrings for the first time. The slopes can get super crowded on the weekends though, so be sure to get up there wicked early to avoid the lines and dreaded “SOLD OUT” sign in the peak of the season. Also try to get your rentals on the way up instead of at the mountain to beat the long lines and steeper prices.

Tickets are pretty expensive for the quality of snow and and terrain– about sixty something dollars on the weekend while Mammoth is about eighty something. However, Snow Summit manages to provide an accessible family-friendly and beginner-friendly ski resort in the heart of Southern California with better snow than surrounding SoCal resorts.
