While upwards of fifty ski resorts across the country purchase renewable energy credits to offset their greenhouse gas emissions, some resorts are getting their hands dirty making their own renewable energy right on the slopes. Aspen Snowmass, one of the first to purchase off site wind energy, recently unveiled a slew of renewable energy projects including several photovoltaic solar arrays and a micro-hydroelectric plant. The Aspen Skiing Company also uses its economic and political position to initiate policy changes at the state and federal levels to reduce the imminent threats of global warming. Oh, and the skiing’s pretty good too. Snowmass caters to beginners, experts, skiers, and snowboarders alike with wide groomed trails, three terrain parks, steep mogul-packed runs, and adrenaline inducing rocks, trees, and drops. Youngsters can start out in the Treehouse Kid’s Adventure Center for challenging ski and snowboard lessons.

What is your favorite run?
Sheer Bliss, lots of wide open terrain w/ packets of trees.
What is your favorite lift?
The Big Burn. Gets you to great skiing in less than 8 mins.
Favorite powder stash?
The Hanging Valley Wall. You have to climb a little but has lots of wide open fantastic powder skiing. Very cool.
Favorite apres ski?
The Office at the Cirque. Great location w inexpensive drinks & food.
Anything else that is cool?
Tons of ski in and ski out condos. Fantastic place for kids to learn how to ski at Fanny Hill. Great blues and blacks for the whole family.
