The Ski Channel’s Moguls interview with Mike Hattrup continues as the ski pioneer opens up about Chamonix, Blizzard of Aahhhs and the debut appearance of Glen Plake’s now legendary mohawk.
Mike reveals the circumstances that led to the formation of their Chamonix team, including his first encounter with one Glen Plake. Apparently, Glen didn’t come out of the womb with his spikes, which would have proven quite painful for Mamma Plake. Mike reminisces about encouraging Glen to “fire that thing up” with some ski shop wood glue before a competition.
After introducing Glen to Greg Stump the group set off for the epic slopes of Chamonix. Once they were finally on the ground, the entire region was hit with a solid week of snow. When the skies finally cleared and the peaks were revealed, the team quickly came to the realization that they were embarking on an entirely different level of big mountain backcountry skiing.
